If you are looking for high quality, reliable entry-level robotic pool cleaner, the Aquabot Breeze XLS (ABREEZ4) is an excellent choice.

It’s not expensive and comes with useful features including an anti-tangle cable, power washing jets, agitating brushes, and 2-micron fine mesh filters.

It is designed primarily for above-ground pools of all shapes and surfaces, but you can also use it in a small in-ground pool (max length 50ft).

Just don’t expect it to climb walls to the waterline nor clean stairs.  If you need that, then check out Aquabot’s X4 robotic pool cleaner instead.

NOTE: This robot pool cleaner has mixed reviews online – some owners claim they had a subpar experience while many others claim it’s really good. The problems seem to be limited to an earlier version of this model that was plagued with a host of quality issues. The most recent updated version has received far better customer feedback.

Cleaning Ability

Aquabot ABreeze

This is an entry-level pool cleaner so don’t expect to be blown away. But it still does a pretty good job in the pool.

It doesn’t have a smart pool scanning system (which is not a surprise considering the price range). Instead, it relies on a preset back and forth navigation system to cover the pool surface.

This may seem rather basic, but it works great in above-ground and small in-ground pools. The robot finishes cleaning the entire pool in around two hours.

It can clean different surfaces including gunite, vinyl, tile, and fiberglass. It’s able to clean the pool floor and cove as well as the wall (as long as the floor to wall transition is curved).

The Breeze XLS uses a 3-stage cleaning system.

Fixed brushes agitate dirt on the pool surface as the robot moves. This doesn’t clean as thoroughly as active brushes (brushes that spin), but they will usually get most of the dirt/debris from your pool’s floor.

The ABREEZ4 robot also creates powerful water jets that help unseat debris in places where the brushes cannot reach.

Finally, a powerful suction system vacuums up 80 gallons/min of pool water through fine filters that trap debris as small as 2 microns.

All that dirt is collected in two large baskets that are easy to remove and clean.

Overall, the Aquabot Breeze has solid if not spectacular cleaning ability. It doesn’t win any awards for features or tech, but it will do for most people’s needs.

I recommend it mostly for routine everyday cleaning of flat-bottomed pools.

If you’ve just opened the pool for the season, the manufacturer recommends manually cleaning the pool first to avoid overloading or damaging the robot

Best Features

1. Power Washing Jets

Aquabot ABreeze

The Aquabot Breeze doesn’t just rely on brushes to remove dirt and algae stuck on the pool floor and walls.

It also uses water jets to complement the brushes, ensuring nothing gets left behind. The water jets are especially handy in getting to corners that the brushes cannot reach.

2. Agitating Brushes

Aquabot ABreeze

As the Breeze XLS pool robot moves along the pool surface, brushes stir up dirt and algae for easy pickup by the suction system.

Unlike most robotic pool cleaners that use active/spinning brushes, this Aquabot one has fixed brushes. Not as good for sure, but they work well enough in small swimming pools.

3. Swivel Cable

Aquabot ABreeze

The robot connects to the power supply using a swivel cable that is designed to not tangle.

Customers say it sometimes gets tangled, but works fine most of the time.

To prevent tangling, make sure you set up the robot as directed in the user manual.

4. Cycle Timer

Aquabot ABreeze

The robot has two cycle options: 1 hour and 2 hours.

The choice depends on the size of your pool and how dirty it is. Use the buttons on the power supply unit to select an option.

Pros

  • Super-affordable.
  • Powerful suction.
  • Fine filters capture the finest debris.
  • Washing jets and agitating brushes for stubborn dirt and algae.
  • Easy to use and maintain.

Cons

  • No weekly timer.
  • No smart scanning and mapping.
  • Swivel cable sometimes gets tangled.
  • Cannot climb walls to the water’s edge.
  • Cannot clean stairs.
